This report of the situation of the elderly in Thailand is a report commissioned by the National Committee for the Elderly, in accordance with the Elderly Act of 2003Article 9 (10) stipulating the preparation of an annual report on the status of the elderly for submission to the Cabinet.
The situation of the Thai older persons reveals a rapid growth of the elderly population at 11.9 per cent in 2010, which is projected to have doubled to 25 per cent by the next 20 years (in 2030), when Thailand fullybecomes an “aged society.”
As of 2013, Thailand had a total population of approximately 66 million, comprised of 64 million Thai citizens and those non-Thais in the Civil Registration system.
